I am currently on EAD and applied for I-485 in July 2007. My category is EB3 India.
I am also maintaing my H1-B status with current company. My priority date is December 2005.
As you all know about the situation of EB3 India and how long will it take to get to December 2005. I want to change the job as I am not getting paid as much as I am supposed to get considering my experience. I am also looking for some change and new opportunities.
So my question is if I get a contract job through a staffing agency and will be working for another company on contract and may be I get permanent after few months or may be not. Is it possible to work on contract for a company through staffing agency using my EAD? I never worked on contract my entire career so don't know anything about it.
What will I need to do or say when I go to staffing agency or the company I will be working for? what is the process?
Please advice as I know many of you have done this or know all about it.
Note: My wife is also on EAD( we applied for I-485 seperately) and not planning to move from the compay where she applied for GC.

no. Comp A cannot apply for H1 extension as the PERM labor is not held by them. What you can do is get an EAD and continue to work for Company A, but then Company A will have to take over the process using AC21

I didn't get an email, but I checked my case status online and it has changed to Decision today. Waiting to get the snail mail. Hopefully, it will move to card production ordered soon. My wife has a FP appt on Jul 15, so I wasn't expecting to get approval before that, but I guess sometimes the surprises are pleasant.

I'm in the same situation. There is a 1 letter difference in my Father's name in the passport and in my birth certificate.
My lawyer went ahead and filed my 485. I did an affidavit later and sent it to the lawyer. He says he'll send the affidavit only if there is an RFE. Hope the helps.

"Is it usual for big employers to already have H1 visas to sponser you on".. All I know is that employers cannot have blank visas for hiring whom they want. They have to file a new application for a specific employee, so they have to start from scratch.
If your F1 covers you for 2.5 years, then there's some hope that immigration laws will change during this time. Because right now it's a nightmare. If nothing changes in the laws and cap number stays at ~65,000, then you will have to win a lottery to get an H1. We'll see on April 1, but most likely there is also a lottery for Master's degree holders.

Also, you can see, EB1+Eb2ROW has s always been in the 50-70K range every year
EB1 I/C each is increasing from 3K to 6K, EB2 ROW is increasing from 10K to about 30K

I woked with Company A and got my I140 approved(PD sep 04 EB2). I had issue with Company A that they asked me wait to apply my I485 in july 2007 wave. I frustrated and moved to Company B and substitued another labor(PD May-2002 EB3), got theI140 approval and 485 is pending from july 2007. In the Meantime, Company A withdrawn my approved EB2 I140 petition couple of months ago to protect one of their employee I140 petition.
Currently i believe the situvation is not good for EB3 and planned to enable my "Company A" I140 petition to apply for I485. Will USCIS allow company A to enable the withrdrawn I140 petition to apply my I485? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

This pieces and other recent pieces show that plodding ideas about commissions and study groups to recommend visa numbers are relics of a past age. Every immigration lawyer knows these simple truths--lazy people do not walk across the desert. And, its corollary--the Hope that is American attracts those willing to work hard to succeed. Well, the former principle is still true, at least for now. The latter is giving way to hopelessness--backlogged visa numbers ("encased in amber"), and a growing and vibrant economy in China and India. The failure to act quickly is going to cost America in the long run. Hi...I went to the USA in Dec 05, with a J1 visa, in may 06 after i applyed for changing of status to B2 visa, I got it denied and the letter said I should leave usa. I didnt, staying there until aug 07 (more than 1 year). my visa expired in apil 06 and the letter from uscis i got in may 06. they wrote in my I-94 cos denied 04-18-06. I didnt give back my I-94 when i left the USA. I want to know what are my chances to get a L2 visa (my husband is applying for L1 visa). I also have a second nationallity, can it help me somehow?

The online status shows a different date than the receipt date my lawyer is telling me. I am july filer......the lawyer telling me july date and online shows sept date.......
Is this normal?

thats fine. the receipt date on your I-485 receipt is the date for all your needs (AC-21 etc). The online date is many times the notice-date (in my case), the date the case was transferred to some other location (for some others)
