it is strange that they added a fourth band (VIII - 900 frequency) which is for more of europe, asia and also vodaNZ but doesn't open up anything in the US... even stranger is that i was just in NZ and my 3G[S] (which doesn't support VIII / 900 apparently) was on the vodaNZ 3G network the whole time. anyone with knowledge of this whole UMTS / HSDPA band and frequency thing, please tell me how this worked then?
I guess Apple added the 3G in 900Mhz to support the 3G networks in Europe. 3G in Europe has been historically in the 2100Mhz band, but that band has poor propagation (poor in building reception) so since a few years there has been some refarming going on of regular GSM bands at 900Mhz to 3G in euroland. Most 3G phones these days in Europe are 900/2100 3G so I'm assuming Apple just wanted to be competitive in Europe in terms of reception.

My wife's an RN and has both been in a number of anesthetized surgeries and has had some herself.
Most patients do just fine - as described above. Redheads are a bit more sensitive to anesthesia (not sure why, but apparently it's true), but that isn't an issue unless your anesthesiologist is color-blind. ;)
Some people - including my wife - are prone to a bit of nausea afterwards, but it's usually short-lived and it isn't an issue with most people. One thing that helps is to pay strict attention to the fasting/drinking instructions they'll give you beforehand. That cookie might seem like nothing when you're hungry before you go in, but you'll regret it upon waking up.
Also, depending on the anesthesia and your particular reaction to it, you'll almost undoubtedly have some period - a few seconds to an hour or so - of time where you are lucid but don't have functional short-term memory... meaning you might say naughty things to your neurosurgeon but then will have no idea why he's looking at you like that later on.... ;)

When my mum came home the night of her procedure, she felt really tired. You just need to sleep it off, which she did for a good 14 hours ;)
But yeah, it was like she had no control of her body and her senses were un-reactive. Just really drowsy.

Once again, this is the start of the tablet era. Don't think of it in terms of the iPad we have in 2011. Think of it in terms of the iPad of 2020. That will blow the doors off anything we know today. It will sync to the cloud, will have voice input, far better keyboard input, connect to every other device you own, and no, I don't know how but I will enjoy watching it unfold.
By 2020 the vast majority of consumers will think of a tablet as their computer and only specialists will get anything like what we call a computer today.

Could you provide a little more detail of your situation? Which program(s) create corrupted PDF files? Is it only Firefox? Which version of OS X are you running? SL? 10.6.7? When was the most recent time you were able to create a PDF that was not corrupt? Yesterday? Weeks ago?
I just created a PDF from FF 4.0 on 10.6.7 and it worked just fine. I went to about firefox so I could figure out what version of FF I had and it downloaded and installed an update (4.0.1). I'll "print" again just to test...
You mention Acrobat. That really is not needed on OS X. I used it briefly when a certain prof was sending out indecipherable PDF files but I never allowed it to become any kind of default and I haven't run it in close to a year. BTW, printing to PDF worked for me again on 4.0.1. You should be able to use Preview and Quick View on any PDF you have created on your machine.

I get your suggestioin about a focal point. That brings up some interesting questions about how to light it. It would have to be very deliberate so as not to spill into the red and blue. As it was I ran around in the dark with a flashlight to light the scene. The total exposure time was 66.7 seconds. :) Perhaps even a faint image of somebody sitting in the foreground. Maybe even a ghostly figure -- only in the frame temporarily so that the cabin bleeds through.
I love this kind of thinking! You obviously have a creative mind, so go for it! I frequently return to the same sites to try out new ideas; it can be an extremely rewarding way to shoot because you eventually become a master of that location and know exactly what you want to do there. So yeah, let your imagination run wild and go back to try out something fun.
I do a lot of this kind of shooting (gelled strobes, dilapidated structures, low light), and I know all too well how challenging it is to get the balance right between the artificial and ambient light. You said you now have some more strobes and triggers, and that will free you up a lot to do shorter exposures, which will help you to incorporate more ambient light and get more detail into the shadows.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. :)

If they expected to cut taxes, not cut spending, and have a balanced budget then stupidity, not the tax cuts, are to blame.
30? Then you are not old enough to remember Laffer and Friedman and their bill-of-goods. But surely you have read how they told us with straight faces that cutting taxes would increase revenue. Whether they actually believed it, honestly expected big loop holes to be eliminated, or were just messing with us is not entirely clear. In the end, it all added up to oceans of red ink where before we had ponds, and the economy just keeps getting more unstable. The optimal balance has yet to be discovered, but right now it looks like we are not getting any closer to it.

(I remember Steve Jobs once mentioned how Apple employees' hatred for their own cell phones helped drive the creation of the iPhone.) So I'm willing to bet that Apple looked at their server farms and thought, "Dang, we'd be stupid to put Xserves in here. Um, why are we building these things again?"

This would greatly improve the usability of airplay, in my opinion.
Imagine you had your TV on some random channel, while surfing the internet on your iPad. If your TV supported AirPlay, then you could just click the Airplay button on your iPad, and the random channel would be changed to the Airplay content. You wouldn't have to change the tuners over to Apple TV. Much more convenient.

I like Airplay, but the added step of having to change inputs to apple tv, while admittedly minimal, is still enough of an inconvenience to keep my wife from using it very often.
Also, I notice that airplay doesn't seem to work when I'm playing internet radio on my apple tv 2G. I have to stop the radio from playing and back out to the main menu on the apple tv before it will accept an airplayed photo from my iphone 4, for example. Anyone else notice this behavior?

I bought a Verizon iPad because I have an AT&T iPhone. I figured that if one doesn't work, the other will. I saw no need to get two devices on the same network.

Could be they made many more Verizon models. Could also be that ATT models are being bought for resale overseas. Nothing wrong with that, which is what the OP was implying, I think. Could also be a combination of the two, of course.
Thankfully, there's no moral, ethical, or legal responsibility saying what you should do with your legally obtained, publicly available tech item. You can use it, blend it, sell it to your neighbor, use it as a frisbee, or even carry it on a plane and once you land, you can do all those same things EVEN if your plane landed near a bunch of Asians instead of near a bunch of white people. Crazy, huh?

The one thing I would like to see in Word is a reference database and auto-format for citations so I can switch to APA or MLA style as needed. My grad school professors each have their own ideas about proper style.

I couldn't agree more. There has to be a way to implement this. Though, getting the approval from APA, and MLA might be a problem. They want to sell their manuals, and this could, conceivably, cut into their sales.

if you think that apple have enough time to speak to every one with this istalled you are wrong! they will however stop people distributing it... this has been shown many times over the past few weeks.

Hi Guys
I have got a netgear readynas duo with my itunes media folder and library files on. When i open itunes it all connects fine. But when i restart the mac and open itunes it says it cant find the library folder and i have to browse to it using the "choose library" option.
I know this probably means that the nas hasn't mounted but when i go into finder before opening itunes and click on the nas under "shared" it slowly logs in and then shows me all the files.
Is there anything i am missing or anyone else got experience setting this up with a readynas?

I'm fairly certain AirPlay is actually a standard that Apple has licensed from another company which is why there were already a few receivers on the market that supported or could be updated to support AirPlay.
You must confusing it with something else. AirPlay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPlay) is Apple's updated version of AirTunes which has been around for years.
